Abstract

A new electronegativity scale is derived, in the spirit of Mulliken's original scheme, in terms of neutral atom spectroscopic data. The effect of changing the atomic configuration for C from covalent (sp3) to metallic (s2p2) is considered. Structural stability maps are presented for non-octet non-transition metal compounds, and for two classes of transition metal-non-transition-metal compounds.
